Moonlighters Project

With all the snow we had here in the Puget Sound area in December, the Moonlighters weren't able to meet, so the project assigned for December was pushed to January.

Here is a picture of what we did, adorable snowman with colorful buttons:

The Gift of Giving

Our January general meeting was a success, thank you all!
Here is a picture of Cathy Swensen, president of CTA - Clothing Textile Advisers. Cathy talked about the importance of volunteering to help communities and to keep alive needle arts in general.

Bellow is Susan Parr, a Needle Arts Guild charter member and also director of "Washington State Make it with Wool". Here are some members working on fleece hats and scarves, that are going to be donated to a church in Puyallup, that has a program called "Friday Freeze" where they take the less fortunate people in and give them a place to spend the night.

And last but not least, a picture of some completed hats and scarves.

The Sewing Machine Project

Pennie (our Needle Arts Guild president), was watching the TV show "Sewing with Nancy" and learned about "The Sewing Machine Project" and wanted to share the link for that wonderful website with you.
To visit "The Sewing Machine Project" website, you can click here and you will be directed to their web page, where you will see how they are helping communities in need, like New Orleans, affected by Hurricane Katrina.

January General Meeting

“The Gift of Giving”
Monday, January 26, 2009
Pierce County Processing and Administrative Center
3005 112th St. E Tacoma WA 98446 253-536-6500
10:30 am - 1:30 pm
Portland Ave S exit off 512 to 112th east toward Waller Rd.

Volunteering of time, talent and resources has always been important. Over the years members
and friends have participated in a variety of ways. Our meeting will be one more opportunity to
participate in the gift of giving. We have chosen to gather and create fleece hats and neck scarves for those living in temporary shelters in our community.

Fleece is needed, pairs of scissors, some cutting boards and olfa cutters, rulers and a few sewing machines.

Part of our time together on Monday we will be putting together the handout for the Sewing Expo. Your help is appreciated.

* Door prizes.
* Speakers on future projects.

Needle Arts Guild Library

We have been trying to entice you to visit our library.

Comfy Quilts 7017 - 27th St W University Place 565-5745.

This would not be a good idea for a satellite field trip. Room for two is about all that space can
accommodate.

We have made some of our books available for sale at General Meetings. With thinking caps on, it was decided that the thing that would entice me above all else, would be chocolate. There is a box of chocolates on the shelf in our Library.

Stop in and browse the shelves and have some chocolate!

Education Reminder

You are invited to participate in a class of your choice with a shop whose advertisement is found in our newsletter.

You may receive a $10 rebate from our treasury with the submission of receipt. This offer will end the last day of May 2009.
